Springer Homers twice, Blue Jas won 8-5 to sweep Yankis and finished first in AL East

George Springer on Thursday gave a smack to a pair of two-homes to Toronto Blue Jas on New York Yankis to win the 8-5 win and a four-game series.

Springer put Toronto ahead 3–1 in the third innings and expanded his team’s lead in the eighth as Blue Jais (49–38) finished first in the American League East from Yencis (48–39).

On May 28, there were eight games behind Yenkis.

A dog’s Nathan Luke finished 14-picch to snap a tie with a double-run double in the fourth innings before 36,848 at the Rogers Center.

Edison Baragar added a single homer to the fifth to go with two earlier couples.

Toronto’s Starter Chris Basit (8-4) scored nine in 5 2/3 innings, eight hits and three runs on three walks.

New York’s Starter Clarke Shamit left the game after three innings due to the tightness of the right cell. He conceded three runs on four hits and two walks with a strike.

Jeff Hoffman earned the 21st Save with a hit ninth.
