Spotify reportedly working on ‘advanced remixing tool’ for playlists

Spotify is expected to be working on a new feature that will allow users to remix their playlists using “advanced remix tools.” Mixing tools allow users to add different transition styles, as well as sequence tracks with similar key, tempo and style. These features may be part of the company’s rumored Music Pro premium plan, whose main attraction is said to be providing lossless music. Notably, last week the music streaming giant released a new artificial intelligence feature that allows users to create personalized playlists simply by entering text prompts.

Information about the new mixing tools comes from Threads postal Author: Chris Messinapass TechCrunch, who discovered a slew of code in the latest beta that reveals the capabilities of these so-called hybrid tools. According to a screenshot shared by Messina, the feature will allow users to “show off your DJ skills with different transition styles to create the ultimate mix.”

But according to sources, more than just transitional styling will be available. Other code examples state, “Automatically reorder your mixes by sorting tracks with similar keys, tempos, and styles.” This feature may allow users to fine-tune an entire playlist without much effort. References to “advanced mixing tools” were also spotted, suggesting users will also have fine-grained control over DJ-like features to manipulate tracks through beats and more. Potential users can also speed up tracks, also known as nightcore songs, which have become popular in recent years.

These features will be available through Spotify’s rumored Music Pro plan.according to a postal Reddit user Hypixely discovered code samples related to the new premium tier, and the plan’s main attraction may be lossless music up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. The source also claims that it will be available as an add-on, rather than as a separate subscription tier that users can bundle on top of their existing plans. A few years ago, there were rumors that Spotify HiFi could offer lossless music, but the feature never appeared on the streaming platform.

The screenshot shared by the tipster shows a new option that notes “Lost yourself in lossless” and describes the feature as “your favorite high-fidelity music in 16-bit and 24-bit.” The source revealed that streaming quality will depend on the device. Messina said he has access to the feature despite not upgrading or changing his plans. It’s unclear whether Spotify will charge users for this feature.
