Amsterdam:
South Africa has asked the International Court of Justice to order additional emergency measures against Israel, the United Nations’ top court said on Wednesday, saying it had violated existing measures.
In its application, South Africa warned that Palestinians in Gaza were facing starvation and asked the court to order all parties to cease hostilities and release all hostages and detainees.
South Africa also asked the court to order Israel to “take immediate and effective measures to provide urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the famine in Gaza”.
It added that due to the “extreme urgency of the situation” the International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court, should take the measures without scheduling a new round of hearings.
In January, after South Africa accused Israel of committing state-led genocide in the Palestinian territories, the World Court (ICJ) ordered Israel to refrain from any actions that might fall within the scope of the Genocide Convention and to ensure that its military does not commit them against Palestinians Acts of genocide. Gaza.
Israel and its Western allies called the accusation baseless.
A final ruling in the Hague case could take years.
