A 16-year-old schoolboy from Delhi, who left his home on November 18 excited to spend another day with his drama club, ended his life by noon. She left a suicide note in which she asked for her organs to be donated and urged that no child should have to suffer like she did.

Police said the Class 10 student of a private school jumped from the platform of Rajendra Place metro station in central Delhi at 2:34 pm. He was taken to nearby BLK hospital, where he was declared brought dead. In his note, he took names of some teachers and held them responsible for mental harassment for a long period of time.

His father alleged that his son had been struggling for months with how he was treated at school.

“He used to tell me and my wife that teachers used to scold him on every small thing and hurt him emotionally,” the father told PTI. We complained verbally several times, but they never stopped.”

He said they refrained from taking strict action as Class 10 exams were approaching.

He said, “Her exams were coming up in a month or two. There are twenty marks coming from school. I didn’t want to bother with anything.” He said the family had assured the boy that he would be admitted to a different school after his exams were over.

On Tuesday, the boy had stopped by for his drama club session, and according to his father, he was left very upset by what happened there.

“He slipped and fell in drama class. The teacher pushed him and insulted him in front of everyone and said he was overacting,” the father said. “They scolded him so much that he started crying, but the teacher told him they didn’t care how much he cried.” This is not the first time, he said, that his son has felt cheated.

He said, “His classmates told me that a teacher was threatening him and saying that they will give him a transfer certificate and call us (parents) to the school. It was not just him, but three to four other children too have been treated similarly.”

His father said the boy had recently participated in a dance competition and talked about his desire to learn more about theater and dance.

“He was also very good in studies,” she said.

According to the father, he and his wife had gone to Kolhapur, Maharashtra on November 18 for his mother’s operation, while his son went to school as usual on Tuesday. The first call informing about the incident came at 2.45 pm.

A senior police officer said the suicide note found at the scene began with the boy identifying himself and asking the reader to call a number. He wrote that constant scolding from the school staff drove him to commit suicide and sought forgiveness from his parents and elder brother. He also requested that his organs be donated.

He wrote to his brother, “Sorry brother, I have been rude to you all the time.” And to his mother he said, “Sorry mom, no matter how many times I’ve broken your heart, I’m going to do it for the last time.” He expressed gratitude towards his parents and guilt over not being able to do more for them.

At the end of the note, the boy asked that whatever he had left should be used to help someone else, the officer said.

He wrote, “Give my organs to the needy.” He wrote that if any organs are still functioning after the fall, they should be donated.

He concluded, “My school is like this. My last wish is that action be taken against them. I don’t want any other child to have to go through this.”

Police said the allegations and the contents of the note are being investigated.
