Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav is making waves with his searing pace in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). During LSG’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday, Mayank became the first bowler in the cash-rich domestic league to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award in the first two matches. The 21-year-old stunned the RCB batsmen with a raw pace of 3/14 and recorded the fastest bowling speed of IPL 2024 at 156.7 km/h.
Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop was in awe of Mayank’s sheer pace and said the youngster “bowled like a son of the wind”.

Against RCB, Mayank dismissed Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green in four overs.
In LSG’s previous match against Kings XI Punjab (PBKS) at the Ekana Cricket Ground in Lucknow, Yadav impressed on his IPL debut, picking up three wickets for just 27 runs pillar gate. His bowling heroics earned him the Man of the Match award.
With back-to-back wickets in the first two IPL games, Mayank became the sixth bowler to do so in the history of the tournament. Others who achieved this feat earlier include Lasith Malinga, Amit Singh, Mayank Markande and Jofra Archer.
LSG selected Mayank Yadav at a base price of Rs 20 lakh in the 2022 IPL auction, but he only warmed up the bench that season and missed the 2023 edition due to injury.
Yadav’s rise from frail 15-year-old to lightning-quick match-winner in December 2022, making just one appearance for Delhi, has been something of a fairy tale, but his club coach says he had expected it.
“I’m not surprised at all,” Davendra Sharma told Indian outlet Sportstar.
“He belongs in the major leagues because of his speed and talent with the ball.
“It’s just a matter of time before Mayank makes an impression across the country.”
