Mumbai, Oct 19 (IANS) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday hit out at the obstacles being created by some people in the way of India’s progress and called for returning to Indian roots and knowledge system by freeing our minds from “foreign influence”.
Speaking at a book launch event in Mumbai, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief said, “We need a new way forward and India has that way. So this is what the world expects from us. Some people are hindering our progress…peace is also necessary for this.”
He criticized the ‘Macaulay Knowledge System’ (MKS) and called on Indians to understand and evaluate the secret of the success of the rest of the world.
He said that MKS has had a negative impact on the minds of Indians as “our minds and intellect have become alien”.
“We have to free ourselves completely from that foreign influence to pave the way for access to our traditional knowledge and to understand its importance,” he said.
Earlier, Bhagwat compared the goodwill of ancient Indians to the invaders who weakened the country by looting the wealth and minds of the people.
“Those who have superior culture, knowledge and values are called Aryans. How our ancestors traveled is not completely known; they moved in small groups on foot. But it is clear that from Mexico to Siberia, they spread across the world. Wherever they went, they neither conquered kingdoms nor forcibly converted others; instead, they enlightened others by sharing civilization, mathematics, Ayurveda and a variety of scriptures. Enriched,” he said.
“He did all this to strengthen and enlighten the world through his legacy,” he said.
Releasing the Arya Yuga Vishaya Kosh encyclopedia, Bhagwat said spiritual knowledge is still flourishing and as descendants of Aryavarta we have science and weapons, strength and power, faith and wisdom.
He said, “It is good to understand the knowledge given by the western countries…but it is very important to preserve the knowledge of our ancestors…Our scriptures are the lifeblood of our civilization.”
He said, “Our heritage has been alive for 5000 years and we must strive to regain our place and become what we were centuries ago.”
