Skims MC Bemina launched corneal transplant service for blind patients

In an important milestone for eye care in the region, the postgraduate department of ophthalmology at Skims Medical College and Hospital, Bemina, has successfully conducted its first two corneal transplant surgery, restoring two blind individuals.

According to a statement issued here, Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Sajad Ahmed, Head of the Department of Eye Sciences, led a team of experts in performing complex processes.

He Skims MC, Pro for his unwavering support to enable the department to achieve this achievement. “This achievement marks a new era in eye care in our organization and brings hope for patients suffering from corneal blindness,” Pro. Sajad said.

Corneal transplantation services officially started on 26 June 2025 on 26 June 2025 under the leadership of Professor (Dr.) Sheikh Sajad Ahmed. The launch department recently follows the acquisition of the thota license, which regularly authorizes it to conduct corneal transplant surgery.

“This surgery provides new hope to people given to blind people due to corneal diseases. For many people, this is the first time to see the world again with its own eyes,” Pro.

The department is committed to offering extensive eye care services, including faco cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, retinal diagnostics and surgery and oculoplasty processes. Additionally, Skims MC is the only government hospital in the region that provides free collagen cross-linking treatment for keratoconus, which aims to prevent the progression of the disease.
