Visakhapatnam, Nov 23 (IANS) Six people were killed and 16 others injured in two separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
Four people were killed and six others injured when a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) collided with a parked truck in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district early Sunday.
The accident occurred on the national highway near Yetturallapadu village in Kotabommali mandal.
According to police, the vehicle carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh collided with a parked truck from behind.
Police and highway patrol teams reached the spot and started rescue and relief operations.
The pilgrims were heading towards Srisailam temple for darshan.
The deceased were identified as Vijay Singh Tomar (65), Singh Pawar (60), Kusal Singh (62) and Santoshi Bai (62).
The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Narsannapet.
According to police, the pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were on their way to Srisailam after visiting Puri in neighboring Odisha.
Police suspect that the MUV driver dozed off, which led to the collision.
In another accident, a private bus was hit by a truck in Nandyal district, killing two people and injuring 10 others.
The accident occurred near Perayapalem in Allagadda mandal when the bus collided with two trucks.
The bus going from Hyderabad towards Puducherry collided with a truck. Another truck hit the bus from behind.
Two passengers sitting in the rear seats were killed and 10 others were injured. The condition of four of these is said to be serious.
In another accident, passengers of a travel bus had a narrow escape when the bus skidded off the road near Gannavaram in Krishna district. The accident occurred on the Chennai-Kolkata highway when the bus driver tried to avoid a collision with a truck.
It is being told that the passengers are safe but the front part of the bus was damaged. The bus was going from Hyderabad to Amalapuram.
Meanwhile, in another accident, one person died and another injured in a fire at a biodiesel bunk in Palanadu district.
The accident occurred at Palwai junction in Rentachintala mandal.
In this incident, one person was burnt alive while another was injured. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
The deceased was identified as Rashid, a bank employee. The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Macherla.
Police have registered the case and started further investigation. Short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
