Six candidates nominated for Mizoram’s lone Lok Sabha seat: officials

There are 1,276 polling places across the state, officials said.

Six candidates have filed nominations for Mizoram’s lone Lok Sabha constituency, election officials said.

They said the first phase of voting in the constituency will be held on April 19 and the nomination process will end on Wednesday.

The state’s ruling party, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), has fielded Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, while the main opposition party, Mizo National Front, has nominated its federal house member K Vanlalvena.

The Congress appointed retired former home minister Lal Biakzama, the Bharatiya Janata Party nominated state president Wanlal Muaka and the People’s Conference appointed Rita Marsami.

Former BJP leader Lalhriatrenga Chhangte is also contesting as an independent.

More than 860,000 people are eligible to vote in the state. Officials said there were 4.41 lakh women voters and 36,214 first-time voters.

They said there are 1,276 polling stations across the state.

Around 1,500 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel and 3,000 state police personnel will be deployed for the polls, they added.
