The special investigation unit of the province has approved a Toronto police officer of any wrongdoing. Shooting a 17 -year -old boy last March,
An investigation determined that on 23 March, members of the Guns and Gangs Task Force were monitoring a vehicle, assuming that the driver had illegal firearms.
The driver turned into a plaza in Isington Avenue and went into a store in Saterli Road area after 3 pm. When he returned to the vehicle, he was surrounded by police officers who tried to execute a Techdown.
Police Watchdog says one of the four vehicles tried to escape through one of the back doors, but was stopped by one of the officials. The driver then tried to escape from the same door, but was shot by an officer once in the right leg.
SIU says the vehicle residents were arrested and the “several firearms” were recovered, including a semi-swollen pistol on the driver, who was shot.
SIU director Joseph Martino says that when the driver was not reaching for a gun, when he was shot, he was also evidence to support the claims that his hands were in his waistband area while shooting.
“On this record, I am unable to conclude appropriately that [subject officer] An honest belief did not disturb that the complainant was required to shoot himself and others from the appropriately operated attack, ” Martino wrote,
“At that moment, there was a very real risk that the complainant would use his gun against the authorities, there was nothing less than a gun, which and others were the immediate stoppage power required to protect serious physical damage or death.”
Martino concluded that there is no appropriate basis for committing a criminal offense regarding shooting.
