Kolkata, Nov 12 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) with 65 complaints related to alleged irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) conducted by the commission in the state.
Most of the complaints were related to either booth-level officers (BLOs) distributing enumeration forms from a particular location instead of conducting door-to-door enumeration as directed by the ECI or alleged harassment and physical assault of BJP booth-level agents (BLAs) at the hands of ruling Trinamool Congress supporters.
A delegation of the state BJP led by Suvendu Adhikari reached the office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in central Kolkata on Wednesday and submitted complaints to CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal.
“We have set up monitoring cells in various districts of the state. We have raised 65 complaints before the commission. At some places, it was observed that BLOs were not going door-to-door and were instead sitting in clubs with ruling party leaders and distributing enumeration forms,” he claimed.
After filing the complaint, Suvendu Adhikari told media persons, “Our BLA was beaten up at many places and at one place he was even murdered.”
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the BJP had filed a total of around 50,000 BLA applications, of which around 42,000 have already received BLA identity cards.
Suvendu Adhikari said, “As per the information available with me, around 43,000 Trinamool Congress BLAs have received their identity cards. The number of CPI(M) and Congress BLAs are 30,000 and 9,000 respectively.”
Earlier in the day, the LoP issued a social media statement saying that on Tuesday evening, they had a productive 30-minute meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi and discussed several key issues related to West Bengal.
Along with his social media post, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also attached a photo of his meeting with the Union Home Minister.
