Kolkata, Nov 13 (IANS) The first phase of the three-phase Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in West Bengal, which is the distribution of enumeration forms among voters, is expected to be completed by Friday.
Thursday and Friday still remain, but less than one crore voters in West Bengal have still not received the counting forms.
According to data available from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, more than 6.99 crore (91.19 per cent) enumeration forms have been distributed in the state till 8 pm on Wednesday. According to the voter list till October 27, the total number of voters in West Bengal is 7,66,37,529.
The initial deadline to complete the enumeration form distribution process expired on November 11, when the distribution had not been done among about 15 per cent of the total voters in the state.
Subsequently, the new deadline to complete the enumeration form distribution process was set as November 14.
As of November 12, the CEO’s office received 1,50,734 booth-level agent (BLA) applications from various registered political parties, including 1,49,707 BLA-1 applications and 1,087 BLA-2 applications.
A BLA-1 represents one’s political party for an assembly constituency, while a BLA-2 represents the corresponding political party for a polling station. The highest number of BLA applications have been received from the ruling Trinamool Congress, followed by BJP, CPI(M) and Congress.
The first phase of the three-phase SIR in West Bengal began on November 4. The entire process is expected to be completed by March next year. The last time SIR was conducted in West Bengal was in 2002.
Voters whose names or their parents were not in the 2002 voter list will have to submit any one of the 11 documents specified by the Commission to retain their name in the voter list.
Voters whose names or their parents’ names were included in the 2002 list must produce any one of the 11 identity documents recognized by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
