Sir Geoffrey Boycott have called for the departure of England coach Brendon McCullum Australia captured the Ashes by easily winning the third Test in Adelaide.

And the Boycott captain believes ben stokes If England are on the verge of a series whitewash and he fails to learn some tough lessons, he too will face the dismissal.

Boycott, a long-time critic of McCullum’s controversial ‘baseball’ method, wrote in his Daily Telegraph column: “Arrogance has taken over common sense and cannot be allowed to continue.

“Stokes and McCullum are like guys who are digging nowhere. If what you are doing is not working then stop digging. Change is essential to reach the next level.”

Addressing England managing director Rob Key, Boycott said: “What would I do? Change the coach. We’re tired of this pair talking good games but not performing well against the best teams, so Rob Key, it’s time you assert yourself.”

“I would also sit down with Stokes and find out whether he would compromise his approach to batting and be willing to embrace new ideas. If he doesn’t feel a change in attitude is needed then you will have to find a new captain.”

Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, the former England captain Michael Atherton He described England’s surrender as one of the most “disappointing” he could remember.

Atherton played 33 Ashes Tests and never captured the famous trophy. He continues to cover the Tours as a broadcaster and journalist.

Atherton said: “I’ve played some bad, seen some bad, and seen some whitewash.

“Actually, it’s just as disappointing for me, because I thought England had the tools to do the job here or at least challenge, and I thought the Australian team had weaknesses or room to exploit.”
