But I am saying good morning britainSir Cliff said he was diagnosed during an insurance health check ahead of a tour of Australia and New Zealand.
He expressed relief that the cancer was caught early, saying: “Fortunately it was that it wasn’t very old, and secondly it didn’t metastasize. Nothing had moved into the bones or anything like that.”
The star, known for hits like ‘The Young Ones’ and ‘Summer Holiday’, stressed the importance of regular testing, saying: “I don’t know if it will come back or not. We can’t tell things like that but we definitely need to, I’m sure, get there, get tested, get tested.”
He labeled the absence of a national screening program As in “absolutely ridiculous”.
Highlighting government responsibility, he continued: “We have governments to take care of our country and the people who live in that country, so I don’t understand how you can say, ‘Oh, we can do this, we can do that, but we don’t do it for these people’.”
“We should all have the same ability to get tested and then start treatment early. I feel like that – I’ve only been exposed to cancer for a year, but every time I’ve talked to anybody this is what has come up and so I think our government should listen to us.”
Following the King’s recent announcement of cancer treatmentSir Cliff expressed his desire to collaborate on awareness. “I’ve been involved with a number of charities over the years and if the King was happy to put this forward for us, I’m sure a lot of people, I would certainly join him… If the King is listening, I think most of us would say ‘yes – we’re available’.”
His call for widespread screening came as the UK National Screening Committee announced in November a draft recommendation for a targeted prostate cancer Screening programme.
