“Recently during an event, some tattoos were displayed which depicted the deities in a disrespectful manner, especially when they were below the waist,” the advisory issued on Monday said.
It said the depiction of religious images is derogatory to the faith, beliefs and customs of the country and asked people to pay attention to cultural sensitivity.
The advisory urges all individuals and artists to exercise due care and caution when portraying images related to religious traditions.
It further states that no artistic work should be created or displayed in a manner that hurts religious sentiments or shows disrespect to any community.
The alleged inappropriate depiction of religious deities was made during the International Tattoo Conference held in Sarmasa between 9-12 October.
Following the uproar over the depiction of religious symbols on the tattoos, the organizers of the event formally apologized to the people and the church department.
