Mysuru, 2 October (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah thanked Booker Awardee Banu Mushtaq on Thursday for the inauguration of Dashera and appreciated ministers and officials for successfully organizing historic Dashera celebrations in the city of Mysuru.
He was talking to the media in Mysuru on Thursday.
“Dusshera is a festival of people. It is successful only when more people gather in large numbers. I congratulate the writer, Booker Awardee Banu Mushtaq, who inaugurated this year’s Dashsera festival. It is a matter of happiness that the festival has been successfully celebrated without any obstacles.
He said that Dusshera is a People’s Festival, saying that the celebration is successful only when a large number of people participate.
The Chief Minister said that this time the Dussehra festival is being celebrated for eleven days.
He said, “I have participated in all Dashera festival as Chief Minister during my two conditions. With the blessings of the people, I have got an opportunity to participate in Dasara as Chief Minister eight times, which has given me great pleasure,” he said.
Talking about crop loss due to floods and continuous rains, CM Siddaramaiah said that there has been good rainfall across the state. All the reservoirs are filled, and crops have increased well. However, in some districts of North Karnataka, due to excessive rainfall, crops have been damaged at about 1 million hectares.
“During my visit to Kalaburagi, I announced that compensation would be provided to farmers after a survey. Compensation for dry land, Rs 17,000 per hectare, Rs 17,500 per hectare for irrigated land, and Rs 31,000 per hectare for multi-circle land, government and National Digital Relief Fund (NDRF).
He said that due to continuous heavy rains, it is not possible to conduct a joint crop-loss survey.
“Once the survey is completed, compensation will be provided for all 10 million hectares of damaged crops,” he said.
On the occasion of Vijayadashami, Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar, a floral tribute to Goddess Chamundeshwari, who was taken to Golden Havada by Abhimanyu inside the Mysuru Palace complex.
Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Ministers HC Mahadevapa and Shivaraj Tangadagi, mp yaduveer wadiyar, chief shalini rajneesh, Deputy Secretary Shalini Rajneesh Reddy, and Police Commissioner Seema Latkar WERE present.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar offered prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari at Chamundi Hill of Massuru.
On this occasion, he also performed rituals to break the coconut in front of the Chamundeshwari temple.
