Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer may miss the first game of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), according to Indian media reports times of india. Reports suggest that the batsman’s old back injury relapsed after Mumbai scored 95 runs in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. Iyer underwent surgery for the same injury in 2023 and the recent development may keep him out of the first few games of IPL 2024. The same back injury has worsened. He is unlikely to feature on the fifth day of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the first round of the IPL,” a source told TOI in a report.

The IPL is a crucial game for Iyer after he was left out of the BCCI’s core contract list. KKR will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match on March 23 in Kolkata.

Iyer suffered back spasms during the 95th match and had to undergo two tests by the Mumbai team’s physio. He also did not feature in Mumbai’s match on Wednesday, with reports suggesting he is unlikely to feature further in the Ranji Trophy final.

Iyer had earlier complained about the injury during the recently concluded series against England.

“During the recent home series against England, he told the Indian team management that the injury was bothering him again,” sources said.

However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) said he had no fresh injury concerns.
