India Batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered a spleen injury and was admitted to hospital in Sydney after falling awkwardly while taking a catch. in the third ODI against AustraliaThe country’s Cricket Board (BCCI) said.

He received treatment on the field and did not return in the match, which India won by nine wickets. Australia had already clinched the series with wins in the first two matches in Perth and Adelaide.
“Shreyas Iyer suffered a lower left rib injury while fielding during the third ODI,” the BCCI said in a statement on Monday.
“He was taken to hospital for further evaluation. Scans revealed a lacerated spleen. He is undergoing treatment, is medically stable and is recovering well.
“The BCCI medical team, in consultation with experts in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury situation. The Indian team doctor will accompany Shreyas to Sydney to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”
Rohit Sharma’s century and Virat Kohli’s brilliant 74 helped India end the three-match ODI series on a high note in what will likely be their final appearance in their country’s colors in Australia.
India’s bowlers bowled out the home team for 236 runs and the two former captains stitched a 168-run partnership to give the tourists victory with nine wickets to spare.
“I’ve always loved coming here and this was a good way to finish the innings and get a win,” Rohit said.
“I don’t know if we’ll come back to Australia or not, but it’s been fun over the years we’ve played here. Lots of good memories, bad memories. But overall, I’ll take the cricket I’ve played here for granted.”
India will next face Australia in the five-match T20 series starting in Canberra from Wednesday.
