furious Christmas shoppers Britain’s biggest supermarkets have been accused of ruining Christmas after their turkeys were found smelly and discolored upon delivery.
Shoppers posted photos of the yellow turkey and criticized it, complaining about the smell Supermarket giants For failing to supply healthy meat.
“Just opened the turkey I ordered and it’s moldy and it smells horrible, it’s rotten,” said one tesco shopperWith a picture of a stale looking yellow turkey.
He said, “Thanks for ruining Christmas, I don’t have any backup, so it’s just us stuffing in blankets and putting the pigs in, if they aren’t locked up too. Never again. Oh my god, the smell is everywhere, need candles asap.”
Another shopper, who paid almost £32 to Sainsbury’s for a 1.8kg turkey, said: “What a difference a stale turkey tastes like on Christmas morning!
“By 26/12, the smell was so bad!! £31 more and had to go in the bin!”
Another Sainsbury’s shopper said turkeys had to be removed from the Christmas menu on Thursday.
“No turkey for us today!” He posted on X.
“Bought on Saturday, has been in fridge since. Photos don’t really reflect how bad it smelled after cutting into the packaging. Sainsbury’s very disappointed.”
A shopper accused Sainsbury’s Longwater superstore in Norwich of selling her a “rotten turkey” which she “opened on Christmas morning to find the stench”.
He added: “I will definitely “taste the difference” with this!!!!!”
Another shopper, who opted for beef, said: “Thank you @LidlGB our beef for Christmas Day is rotten. Not good.”
Other buyers complained that their meat was old before Christmas Day arrived – or long before it was even purchased.
“I bought these turkeys on 10/12. They are well past their sell-by date,” said a Tesco shopper with photos of turkeys that were out of date in May and June 2025.
Another Tesco shopper who received an order on 23 December soon discovered that the use by date on her unsmoked bone-in gammon joint was 24 December.
The shopper wrote: “@Tesco delivered a collect order on 23rd Dec. Just noticed the date is 24th Dec and it stinks! Cooking it for Christmas dinner!! Disgusting.” Tesco asked them to send a direct message with more information about the incident.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We will be contacting customers who have received a turkey that does not meet our usual high standards to let them know how sorry we are for this experience and reassure them that we are looking into how this may have happened.”
