Hyderabad, 1 October (IANS) B. Shivadhar Reddy on Wednesday assumed the position as Director General of Police, Telangana.
After taking charge at the DGP’s office, he said that it was his immediate priority to ensure peaceful and smooth operation of the local body elections.
He told the media persons that the police force was taking all the steps to assist the State Election Commission to hold independent and fair elections.
Responding to a query, he said that the police work strictly according to the laws in a fair manner. The new police chief said that he would request the state government to fill the vacancies in the department, especially in special wings.
Shivadhar Reddy said that he would also take steps to improve the expertise of human abilities and force.
He assured all support for the rehabilitation of the Maoists who surrender and join the mainstream. He mentioned a letter written by a Maoist leader that he was ready to leave the path of violence.
Shivadhar Reddy, with a huge experience in dealing with Maoist problems, believes that his ideology has failed.
Shivadhar Reddy was the Director General of Police, Director General of Intelligence before his appointment as DGP. The government issued an order on 26 September posting Shivadhar Reddy as DGP (Coordination). He has also been kept in full additional charge of DGP (head of police force).

Shivadhar Reddy, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1994 batch, was a lawyer before cleaning the Civil Services Examination and appearing in the IPS. More than three decades of service, he did several major works at both the district and state levels.
Born in Hyderabad, Shivadhar Reddy did his schooling and higher education in the city, graduating in LLB. From Osmania University.
After briefly practicing as a lawyer, he approved the Civil Services Examination in 1994 and joined the IPS, and was allotted to Andhra Pradesh cadre.
After the state’s bilateral in 2014, his cadre was re -handed over to Telangana. In 2014, he became the first head of the intelligence department in Telangana in the rank of Inspector General. Later, he served in Personnel Wing, Railways and Road Safety after promotion in additional DGP rank.
In December 2023, the Congress government restored Shivadhar Reddy as the head of intelligence in the rank of Additional DGP.
After his promotion in August 2024, he continued as the head of intelligence along with the post of Director General of Police.
