New Delhi, October 31 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Friday launched a fresh attack on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that a more grand Sheesh Mahal has been built on the lines of Delhi in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-ruled Punjab. He also claimed that the state machinery was being deployed for Kejriwal’s comfort and air travel.
Maliwal wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “After Delhi’s Sheesh Mahal became vacant, Arvind Kejriwal has built a Sheesh Mahal in Punjab, which is even more magnificent than Delhi.”
He claimed that Kejriwal has been allotted a luxurious “seven star” government bungalow, which shows that it is an ‘illegal and illegitimate’ allotment to a person who holds no public office and hence is not entitled to get the bungalow.
He said, “Arvind Kejriwal has been given a luxurious 7-star government bungalow of 2 acres in Sector 2, Chandigarh under the Chief Minister’s quota.”
Maliwal further claimed that the Bhagwant Mann government has put the state machinery at the service of the party supremo and cited the example of allotment of private jet for Kejriwal’s visit to Gujarat.
“Yesterday he boarded a government helicopter from in front of his house to Ambala. Then from Ambala, a private jet of the Punjab government took him to Gujarat for party work. The entire Punjab government is busy serving one man,” the AAP Rajya Sabha member said.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that Kejriwal has come under criticism for alleged wasteful expenditure. The BJP has repeatedly hit out at him and the AAP for what they called “Sheesh Mahal-style governance”.
“Sheesh Mahal”, a term widely used by the BJP, refers to the official residence of then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which underwent costly renovation during his tenure.
Maliwal has often used the phrase “Sheesh Mahal” to criticize Kejriwal and AAP. He has accused the party of prioritizing luxury over governance and ignoring the deteriorating civic conditions in Delhi.
In January 2025, Maliwal led a high-profile protest, collecting garbage from neglected Delhi areas and dumping it outside Kejriwal’s residence to highlight the capital’s worsening sanitation crisis.
The “Sheesh Mahal” controversy resurfaced in May 2024, when Maliwal alleged that he was assaulted by Kejriwal’s personal assistant Vibhav Kumar at the then chief minister’s residence.
