Bhopal, Nov 4 (IANS) Reacting to Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor’s views on India’s ‘dynastic politics’, Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Hemant Khandelwal on Tuesday said Tharoor has expressed his experience of what he saw in the Congress.
Making a scathing attack on Congress, BJP leader Khandelwal said that the oldest party has never been able to move ahead with leaders coming from one family.
He also alleged that Congress lacks ideology as only one family can take all decisions within the party.
Speaking to mediapersons in Bhopal, Khandelwal said, “What Shashi Tharoor said is completely correct, and he has expressed his experience of dynastic politics in Congress. Parties will become stronger when there is participation of people from all sections of it, otherwise the situation will become similar to Congress.”
Khandelwal, who is a veteran BJP MLA from Betul, also said that the BJP is continuously growing due to strong leadership, commitment towards the people and participation of people from all sections of the society.
Khandelwal, who was elected as the state BJP chief in July this year, said, “There is no solid ideology and strong thinking in the Congress because it has been limited to just one family, while the BJP is continuously moving forward.”
A new debate on dynastic politics started when Tharoor said in an article that dynastic politics across the political spectrum is a ‘serious threat’ to Indian democracy and added that it is time for India to trade “dynasticism for meritocracy”.
In his article, the Congress MP wrote that “when political power is determined by lineage rather than capacity, commitment or grassroots engagement, the quality of governance suffers”.
In his article for international media organization ‘Project Syndicate’, Tharoor also said that the Nehru-Gandhi family is linked to the Congress, but dynasty politics prevails across the political spectrum.
