Namita Thapar is a well-known figure in India, especially among progressive women entrepreneurs. As Executive Director (ED) of Emcure Pharmaceuticals’ India operations, she also inspires others and contributes to the healthcare industry. She gained a lot of recognition and attention due to her appearance in the Indian television show Shark Tank. She was popular on the show for her witticisms and competitive spirit. Her quips include – “Ye bohot cluttered market hai, so I went out”, “Meri expertise nahi hai” etc.

Namita Thapar recently spoke to The Times of India about her experience on the show, the difficulties she faces as an entrepreneur, and more. In an interview, industrialist Thapar was asked how she felt about the popular quips on Shark Tank India. In response, the entrepreneur said she did this to add some fun to the show.

“I think it’s funny. People’s lives are stressful. We provide a little humor, laughter and entertainment. They have fun at our expense, so why not. I know how to have fun with it. Sometimes they do it on purpose . I did it just for the mammary glands because I knew the other sharks and the audience would giggle,” Namita Thapar told The Times of India.

The businesswoman went on to say that she gets very competitive and excited when healthcare promotions are featured on the show. Then her comment or quip comes out real. However, sometimes this is intentional, “because I’m a really badass person. I love doing mammograms on set. I love having fun and having a good time,” she added.

Meanwhile, Namita Thapar recently exited part of the airport retail brand after achieving a 3.5x return on investment. This is the first ever exit from Shark Tank India. Rare Planet, India’s largest airport retailer, is exhibiting at the 2021 show and has a deal with Namita. When asked about the exit investment, Namita Thapar said that exiting adds to the credibility of the show, the Sharks and the founders.

She said people think anything related to artisans and handicrafts is an NGO or CSR and does not generate revenue. But Namita Thapar asserts that the fact that the company grew from four to 50 stores before becoming India’s largest airport retailer is nothing short of amazing. “That’s why I partially quit, because it’s still a long way to go,” she added at last.
