Folk singer Sharda Sinha, also known as Bihar Kokila, passed away on Tuesday. His loved ones were in deep mourning for his death. Sharda Sinha is very popular in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and has fans across the country. The 72-year-old folk singer passed away at Delhi’s AIIMS after a long battle with myeloma blood cancer.

After her death on Thursday, her son Anshuman addressed the media and demanded that his mother be awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s second-highest civilian honour. Anshuman said, My mother did a lot and she is popular not only in Bihar but also at home and abroad. While we do not anticipate any complaints or special requests, we always feel that he should be awarded the Padma Shri.

Padma Vibhushan can be given posthumously

Anshuman further said, My mother is not the type to hold grudges. It is from Him that we learn to be happy and content with all that we receive. We know that governments can honor people even after they die. It would make her millions of fans very happy if my mother was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri. Let it be known that Sharda Sinha has been awarded the honorary title of Padma Shri and Padma Shri.

Fight hard at the last moment

Recalling his mother’s last moments while undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Delhi, Anshuman said his mother fought a tough battle against a fatal disease but was ultimately unable to defeat it. He said it seemed like he knew the end was near even before he was put on ventilator support. He started telling my sister Vandana and I that things were getting very difficult and that we had to learn to live without him.

Maintained relationship with Chhath even at the last moment

Sharda Sinha is famous for her devotional songs sung in Chhath Puja. He got a different identity compared to the song he sang this time. What’s special is that this year’s Chhath Puja starts from Thursday and his last rites will also be performed on the same day.

In Sharda Sinha’s last song, Anshum said the last song my mother recorded was the bhajan of Bhojpuri. Chhathi Maiya is prayed therein to remove the pain of the devotee. He also revealed that the response to the song online has been very good. Anshuman said her mother had a deep connection with Chas not only throughout her life but also in her final moments.
