Kolkata, Nov 9 (IANS) A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, following which the BJP criticized the Mamata government for “deteriorating” law and order in the state.
In a social media post late on Saturday night, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region Sukant Majumdar highlighted the incident while commenting on the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the state.
Majumdar wrote, “Not even a four-year-old girl is safe under Mamata Banerjee’s horrific, demonic reign. The family of a four-year-old girl from Tarakeshwar in Hooghly has alleged that she was abducted from her home while she was sleeping and raped. She was rescued badly injured not long after the abduction.”
The BJP leader said, “But how strange! When the victim’s family went to the local Tarakeshwar police station to lodge a rape complaint, the police chased away the victim’s family and refused to even take the complaint.”
The Union Minister claimed that women are “not safe” in Bengal as they are being subjected to “atrocities” across the state.
“What kind of monstrous West Bengal is this, where a sleeping girl is kidnapped and raped? From the city to the mouflon, from the suburbs to the remote villages, women are being tortured and tortured everywhere! On the one hand, there is extreme women oppression, and on the other, the police, the guardians of law, are trying their best to protect the rapists themselves! Failed CM. How long will Mamata Banerjee hold on to her chair?” Majumdar asked.
According to police, a four-year-old girl, who had taken shelter in the Tarakeswar railway station premises, was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted while sleeping in the early hours of Saturday.
The family claimed that the child was missing since Saturday morning.
Search was conducted at many places, after which the child was recovered from the drain adjacent to the station in the afternoon.
He was taken to Tarakeswar Rural Hospital and released after first aid.
A senior Hooghly district police official said, “A case has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s family. However, no one has been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Appropriate action will be taken against the culprit.”
