As the testing and commission of the Finch West LRT line in Northwest Toronto continues, the clear function of barbarity with the eastern part of the corridor raises questions about maintenance and how the shortcomings are cured.
Mohammad Khan spoke with Citynuse about several glass wall panels, which are shattered at future watchdogs, tobbermarry and driftwood stations, while frescoes can be seen on some glass at Jane and Finch station.
Khan said that he raised this issue with Metrolinx Finch West LRT Community office Several times since spring. He initially chalked the seasonal temperature changes and several broken glass walls in the air.
“His response was very positive and confident and he assured me that he would take a look and inspection and they would take action quite quickly, and they would not necessarily.”
“I have to give them credit for being very cooperative in that way, but still the matter is cheap; action speaks loudly.”
A citynews camera operator saw a broken glass at the Tabermory station in early April. When a cityinues recently visited the scene, the same damaged panels still appeared untouched.
Khan said, “The reason for this is that I told that it is out of a concern about safety … the glass can be shattered anytime and a moving vehicle may fall into the road, fall into the road, and be very dangerous for all the users of the road,” Khan said.
“When such issues and inconveniences are not addressed in a timely manner, it makes a degree of frustration among the residents, and therefore it becomes difficult to achieve the level of acceptance and reliability for such projects.”
Ontario NDP MPPP Tom Rakosvik said that his office had not received a complaint about the damaged glass for the Hamber River -Black Creek, but he said that he had seen it personally.
The questions are: was it anticipated that when the line was being built? Whether they have put in design elements that will try to make it difficult to complete the vandalism and will definitely use materials that are difficult to harm, ”Rakosviks told Citynues.
“I hope these things are fixed as soon as possible, and while moving forward we ensure that it is constructed in such a way that it is difficult to harm it.”
He said that his office is dealing with complaints about traffic which appears from work to fix the shortcomings with Finch Avenue West. While crossing the corridor, Citynues saw several karb and pavement, where it appeared that fresh concrete was inserted.
“We are months because the major construction is over, and again, many times people wake up in the morning, to find out that there is only one lane during a certain part in Finch, and therefore can travel 10 minutes, can only double or triple at that time due to those hurdles,” Rakoswik said.
Citynews contacted Metrolinx several times from Monday and asked for an on-camera interview at any time or date in the last one week, with maintenance and issues related to the Finch West LRT project. A Metrolinx Media Relations Office spokesperson said on Thursday afternoon that no one was available due to “scheduling conflict”.
Khan recently posted a message on X about issues with station platforms and tagged Finch West LRT X account. The public message received a response a few days later.
The response stated, “Our project team is in the process of identifying the solution of the affected panels that was caused by barbarity. If you have any questions, you can reach the Finch West LRT community office,” the response.
In response to the written questions sent by Citynews on Friday, a spokesman for the Metrolinx stated that the security glass was added to the panels, so each “stays in a piece if it breaks.” He said that all panels would be replaced and “the cost of therapeutic work is covered under the current project budget.
Citynues also approached the Toronto Police Service to ask about a possible investigation of barbarity. A spokesman said that an initial discovery showed nothing, saying that they would require more information about the initial report to provide updates. A Metrolinx spokesman said the incidents were informed to the police, but did not disclose when this happened. It is also not clear that the station monitoring cameras captured when the glass was shattered on each platform.
Khan said, “We should be responsible for taxpayers and citizens. This is our money that is being spent to create this infrastructure, so it is really important that we take responsibility to preserve and protect them,” Khan said, it should not be only on government institutions.
When it comes to the current traffic issues related to correcting deficiencies, a spokesperson of the metrolinux confirmed that they were identified during “rigid” inspections. He said that “the remedial work has been covered under the existing project budget.”
The statement said, “As a result, it can be identified in areas that are working to address our construction. Posted online,
Meanwhile, all this comes amid disappointment about the delay in opening the line. The most recent hiccups came in August 2024 when Mosaic Transit Group Filed a case Amidst a contract dispute against the Ontario government. Asked for an update on the trial, a Metrolinx spokesperson said they were “not able to comment on legal matters as they were running.”
Manufacture The 18-stop line is running between Finch West Subway Station and Hamber Polytechnic North Campus Finch Avenue West’s Highway 27 began in 2019 in South and should have been done by the end of 2023. A contract was signed before the tender process started in 2015 under the previous provincial liberal government and the progressive Conservative Party of Ontario in 2018.
August Puranuth, a spokesman of the Passenger Advockese Group, said, “We need some clear deadline, and we need reasons why it is so late.” TtcridesSaid.
“The riders are currently riding the Finch West bus; it is crowded. It is stuck in traffic, and people are looking out of the window and you are looking at this entire LRT line next to them. The riders need an answer.”
This is a feeling shared rakocevic.
“I live here too. Surely we listen to people asking again, ‘When is it going to end? When is it going to open?” He said.
“People have had to do a lot. I mean, we have seen things like garage collapse, a flooding daycare … claims have been made that have been made throughout the process. Accidents have happened and many things that have happened during this.”
Citynews asked the employees of Metrolinx about the current estimated time limit for Finch West LRT. A possible time limit was not given.
The media relationship reaction said, “The progress on Finch West LRT continues, with the project still with testing and commission.
Despite the delay, the benefits taken by the three will eventually bring.
Puranuth said, “This transit project was promised to bring more reliable and consistent and more accessible service to communities with Finch Avenue.”
“Tens and tens of transit along the line, so when the LRT is done at the end [many] Away from this stretch … This should be a major impact for transit riders and of course, drivers the same, “Rakoswik said.
“This high-order transit can lead passengers at a faster speed and more often will be a game-changer for commute,” Khan said.
