Jammu, May 25: In its first initiative to transport the produce that spoils out of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu Railway Division said its first VP Indent (a request for the allocation of full parcel van of goods) on June 3 from Katra railway station to Bandra (Mumbai) from Katra railway station.
Efforts made after comprehensive consultation with the horticulture department and fruit producing associations are a welcome initiative, if it is successfully closed as it will stop the road traffic burden and enable perishable items such as cherry, such as Cheri will reach with minimum damage or quality decline in its intended markets, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), North Railway, Jemu, said the Uchit.
He said that 24 tonnes of cargo will be taken from Katra station to Bandra station in Mumbai to VP connected with the train. Cargo will reach its destination in 30 hours.
“This will be a win-win situation for both railway and fruit growers and in turn will be the economy of the Jammu and Kashmir region,” said Mr. Singhal. (Agencies)
