Sergio Gore said India will be invited to join the Pax Silica alliance as a full member next month, signaling a possible expansion of the technology-focused grouping as engagement deepens between India and partner countries.

Gore’s comments come as the two sides continue discussions on a comprehensive trade deal, with the next round of talks scheduled to take place tomorrow.

What is Pax Silica Alliance?

The Pax Silica Alliance is a multilateral initiative focused on strengthening secure supply chains for silicon, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and related digital infrastructure. The group brings together countries that want to reduce dependence on concentrated manufacturing centers and promote cooperation between trusted partners in critical technologies.

The alliance was launched in 2025 with an initial group of countries with largely advanced manufacturing and technology-intensive economies.

India was not part of the founding members, although officials at the time indicated that discussions were ongoing with New Delhi.

What officials have said about India

While alliance members have not issued a joint statement specifically supporting India’s entry, senior officials from member countries, in separate public comments, have highlighted India’s growing importance in global technology supply chains.

In comments reported by Reuters last year, US officials have described India as a key partner in efforts to diversify electronics manufacturing and create resilient supply chains for critical technologies, including semiconductors. These comments have been made largely in the context of bilateral cooperation and broader supply chain security initiatives rather than within the Pax Silica Alliance.

As previously reported, Japanese officials have talked publicly about deepening cooperation with India, especially on semiconductor supply chains and technology manufacturing resilience, under the Indo-Pacific economic framework. Israeli leaders, in separate statements, have pointed to India’s technology talent base and innovation ecosystem as areas of strategic cooperation.

Why does India’s inclusion matter?

India has stepped up efforts to expand its semiconductor ecosystem, boost electronics manufacturing and establish itself as an alternative production base for global technology companies. The invitation to join the Pax Silica Alliance as a full member will mark an important alignment between India’s technology ambitions and the emerging international framework focused on economic security and reliable supply chains.
