Srinagar, Nov 21 (IANS) Security forces on Friday busted a terrorist hideout along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naugam sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. An officer gave this information.
According to an official, security forces on Friday busted a terrorist hideout in the Neeriyan forest area near the Line of Control in Naugam sector of Kupwara district.
“During the operation, security forces recovered two M-series rifles with four magazines, two Chinese-made pistols with three magazines, two hand grenades and several live rounds. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” an official said.
Jammu and Kashmir has a 740 km long Line of Control that lies in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of Kashmir Valley and Poonch, Rajouri and partly in Jammu district of Jammu division.
The Union Territory also has a 240 km long International Border (IB) located in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu division.
The Army guards the LOC while the Border Security Force (BSF) guards the IB.
Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces conduct counter-terrorism operations in the hinterland, while the Army and BSF crack down on anti-infiltration and cross-border smuggling activities.
Instead of focusing only on eliminating gun-toting terrorists, security forces conduct aggressive counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, their ground workers (OGWs) and supporters to destroy the entire ecosystem of terror.
Drug traffickers, drug smugglers and people involved in hawala money and other illegal activities are also on the radar of security forces. It is believed that the money generated from these illegal activities is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Intelligence agencies say that terrorist organizations operating from across the LoC with the help of Pakistani Army are trying to infiltrate more and more terrorists into the Indian side of the LoC before the mountain passes are closed due to heavy snowfall this winter.
