new boss of nottingham forest sean dyche He said that after becoming the club’s third head coach of the season he has reminded the players how good they are.

54 year old ex burnley And everton Forest has been appointed manager on a deal until the summer of 2027 after being sacked Ange Postecoglou Following Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

Dyche, who lives in Nottingham and was an apprentice at the club, is joined by former Forest heroes Ian Vaughan, Steve Stone and Billy Mercer on his coaching staff.

“We had a good growth for (the players) in our first season and we want to continue that and incorporate those plans into the program,” Dyche said.

“We’ve reminded them how good they are, what they’ve already achieved, and how we can build on that to bring consistency.”

Forest said when announcing his appointment that Dyche, who had been out of work since leaving Everton at the beginning of the year, had “the right mix of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement”.

Dyche said, “There’s some real talent here, so our job now is to find that balance – the risk and reward of going forward to score goals and excite the crowd.”

“But equally the solid base that has been such a huge weapon for the club, especially last season. Finding that balance will be important.”

He added: “I have often spoken about my affection for the club, I started my career here under the great Brian Clough.

“I didn’t make it into the first team, but I have very good memories of that place – and hearing the boss’s voice from afar. It’s strange to be back, but it’s a very good thing, a very pleasant thing.”

Forest are in the bottom three this season having won only one of their first eight league games.

Earlier on Tuesday a club statement said: “Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career so far, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, flexibility and set-piece strength – qualities that align closely with the current team characteristics and the club’s football identity.

“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters.”

Forest were also considering former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and are known admirers of Fulham’s Marco Silva, but the prospect of ousting the Portuguese from Craven Cottage midway through the season was deemed too daunting.

The recruitment process, led by global head of football Edu, descended on Dyche and his first game in charge will be a Europa League clash with Porto at the City Ground on Thursday.

Postecoglou’s dismissal after only 39 days in the role made him the shortest-serving permanent manager in Premier League history.

Postecoglou, who had a flat in the city even before his dismissal, was appointed after Nuno Espirito Santo was fired in the September international break following a breakdown in relations with owners Evangelos Marinakis and Edu.
