burnley Manager Scott Parker praised his players for being ready to fight after seeing them dramatically bounce back from a 1-1 draw bournemouth Thanks to Armando Broza’s 90th-minute equaliser.
Antoine Semenyo’s eighth goal of the season looked like it would condemn Burnley to an eighth consecutive defeat but substitutes Broza and marcus edwards combined to get Parker’s men a share of the loot.
He said: “Certainly the situation we are in and the results we have had, the race we are in, we really need to draw a line under it.
“The most important thing was the result, let’s not talk nonsense. Today was not about the performance.
“We’ve probably given away some bad goals this season. We’ve let ourselves down, been too open and haven’t given ourselves platforms in games.
“But today we were strong against Bournemouth, who are physically, probably the best team in the league really.”
Burnley had struggled to create anything all afternoon, but Parker’s substitutes were crucial and, he says, a testament to the spirit in the team.
Parker said: “I was really happy to get the help from Armando and Marcus. I think it says a lot for the group that players who weren’t really around it much have done a really good job for us.
“I told the boys we were in an all-out dogfight today and we needed a certain component and they gave us all that.”
For long periods, this game was not easy on the face of it but Bournemouth dominated possession and chances and will undoubtedly be seen as having two points down.
There have now been eight league matches for Bournemouth and the manager without a win andoni irola He regretted his team’s missed chances, with the Cherries managing only one shot on target.
“It’s disappointing because it’s a game that we weren’t feeling the pressure on them. But it’s a danger of being 1-0. We had chances to kill it, we didn’t kill it and these things can happen,” he said.
“I think it’s a game that we controlled very well. I think we missed a lot of good chances. Now it’s costing us a lot.”
Bournemouth scorer Semenyo has been the subject of much speculation ahead of the January transfer window, but Ireola refused to dwell on whether this could be the Ghanaian’s final home game for the club.
Ierola said: “Antoni is playing very well, he is performing well and of course I hope he continues.
“I think he’s a big player for us, that’s very obvious. I think he helps us not only in numbers, assists, goals and so on, but also in many other areas.”
