burnley boss Scott Parker Accused his players of lacking confidence, tumbling after a ‘powderpuff’ performance in 2-0 defeat Premier League defeated by brighton.
The second-bottom Clarets were without a win in their eleventh top-flight game after the Seagulls’ Georginio Root and Yassin Ayari scored two goals each on the break.
Parker believes he retains the support of the club’s owners, admitting his side are certain to be relegated if they don’t improve.
Despite taking just two points from a possible 33 since October, Burnley are still just six points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.
“We lacked belief and I didn’t feel for one second that this was a team or a group that ever believed they could come out here and really get results,” Parker said.
“You can lose football games but there are a lot of ways to lose and I just think we see puffs sometimes.
“We were never in the game. Just from our overall approach, our body language and the way we handled it, we didn’t deserve anything from the game.
“(Winless) games are games. But as a team you need to bring something about you.
“What worries me today, what makes me angry, what makes me frustrated, what makes me very disappointed is that we didn’t show that. We just rolled over.”
“If you perform like we did today you won’t get enough points to stay in this division, no chance.”
Burnley full-back Lucas Pires threatened to equalize after Root opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and Ayari doubled Brighton’s lead early in the second half when substitute Roum Chauna saw Feddi Kadioglu’s header hit the crossbar.
But the Clarets created little for much of the game, comfortably finishing second on a chilly afternoon at the Amex Stadium.
Asked about his future, Parker, who guided Burnley to promotion last season, said: “It’s out of my control. I have the utmost support from the owners and everyone at the club.”
“I’m fully committed and I feel like everyone at the football club is too. We’re all injured, we’re all disappointed but we’ll keep going.”
Brighton ended a six-match winless run and surged to eighth in the table.
The Seagulls started the day in 14th place with just three points from 18 games in December.
Albion manager Fabian Herzler Said: “The run wasn’t smooth, but we always stuck together.
“We’ve had some good performances in this round and some not so good performances. But overall, I think the effort of the players, the effort of the staff, the way we work together, is always good and always goes the way we want.”
“I always stress that when you work hard at a certain point you get what you deserve and that’s what we have to continue to do.
“It was a good game but not a great game, we controlled the game. We kept a clean sheet, we created chances and we could have scored more, but overall we are happy.”
