The Supreme Court on Friday expanded the National Examination Board (NBE) to conduct the NEET-PG examination on 3 August 2025. The examination was initially held on 15 June this year.
A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Augustine George Maasih clarified that NBE would not be given any more detail in this regard.
The court said, “We are satisfied that the prayer for the expansion of time is very high. Accordingly, our date has been allowed till May 30, to conduct the exam, the court said in its order.
On May 30, the Supreme Court ordered that the NEET PG exam be conducted in only one shift. Subsequently, NBE transferred an application to the apex court, demanding time expansion to renovate the examination at a later date, as new arrangements would be made to follow the single-shift order.
The bench rejected NBE’s decision to conduct the decision in two shifts, saying that it makes “arbitrary”.
The bench also said that it will be open to apply for NBE for the expansion of time. If they find that the arrangement cannot be made by June 15, then the scheduled date of examination.
During the hearing today, the NBE and the Center’s counsels said that there is a need to take new steps to make arrangements to conduct the examination in the same shift.
The lawyer argued, “The total strength of the candidates appearing for the exam is two lakh 50 thousand, and only 450 centers are there. So we need to ensure that more centers have been provided and safety parameters have been laid.”
He further argued that time is needed to give candidates opportunities to select centers according to their places, now this exam is being conducted in a single shift.
Hearing the presentations, the court allowed the NBE to take the exam at an extended time of August 3. (Ani)
