New Delhi, 25 August: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected an essential list of petitions seeking restoration of the state to Jammu and Kashmir, given that the matter is already scheduled for October 10.
A bench led by Chief Justice BR Gavai said that the issue includes a constitutional bench of the reference to the President and cannot be taken before the scheduled date. The petitioners were argued for the initial hearing by the lawyer, who argued that the state was assured at the time of cancellation of Article 370.
Repeating the earlier directions of the court, CJI reminded the lawyer that on August 14, the Center was asked to file its answer within eight weeks. The court also underlined that the prevalent ground realities, which included security concerns after the Pahalgam terror attack, would have to make a factor considering the restoration of the state.
