New Delhi, 6 October (IANS) The Supreme Court on Monday gave Gitanjali, wife of Sonam Wangchuk. A notice was issued on a writ petition filed by Angmo, which challenges the custody of the Leh-based climate activist under the National Security Act (NSA).
A bench of Justices Arvind Kumar and NV Anjaria sought reactions from the central government and other officials in the matter.
Viewed to the Center, Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta presented that the base of custody was already supplied to the forest.
When senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who was present for Wangchuk, said that no family member has got the basis of custody, SG Mehta replied, “The law requires service on detensy, and we have done so. We will examine the feasibility of serving our wife.”
In its order, a bench, led by Justice Kumar, asked the Center to examine the viability of the supplies supplied to Sonam Wangchuk, to check the feasibility of the supplies supplied, given that the base of custody was already served on a dentu.
Sibal further extended the issue that Wangchuk’s wife was not being allowed to meet him.
In response, the Center’s Law Officer said, “Let’s not make a promotion. No one is being stopped. The lawyer and the brother of Detaneu have met him in jail.”
SG Mehta said that the request of Wangchuk’s wife for a meeting was “believed”.
The second largest law officer of the Center further informed the apex court that Sonam Wangchuk has “said in front of the medical officer that he is not on any medicine”, the purpose of “all publicity” has been aimed at creating “an emotional atmosphere” in the media.
However, a bench headed by Justice Kumar ordered that “Detaneu would be given medical attention, as it may be necessary and the same would be allowed as per the rules of the jail.”
The matter will be heard next Tuesday.
The Union Home Ministry blamed Sonam Wangchuk for inciting violence in Leh Town. Wangchuk was on hunger strike from September 10, and when the violence started in the city, he broke his fast and ran away from the spot in an ambulance.
The worker was later detained under the NSA and transferred to Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan.
Security forces set fire to self -defense when uncontrolled protesters woke up stones and tortured a CRPF vehicle, claiming the lives of four citizens.
Wangchuk, a prominent activist from Ladakh, has been widely awarded for his work in education, environmental protection and other social causes.
