New Delhi, October 7 (IANS) The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice (CJI) of India BR Gavai has recommended the appointment of a judicial officer as a judge of the Allahabad High Court.
The appointment of Judicial Officer Vinay Kumar Dwivedi was originally recommended by the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court in consultation with his two senior most colleagues.
A statement uploaded on the apex court website said, “The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal to appoint Judicial Officer Mr. Vinay Kumar Dwivedi as a judge of the Allahabad High Court in its meeting on 06 October 2025.”
According to the procedure memorandum (MOP) controlling the appointment of High Court judges, the proposal for appointment should be initiated by the Chief Justice.
If the Chief Minister wants to recommend a name, then it should be sent to the Chief Justice for consideration. As the Chief Minister has advised, the Governor should send his recommendation with the entire set of papers to the Union Law and Justice Minister as soon as possible, but not within six weeks from the date of receiving the proposal from the Chief Justice of the High Court.
The proposal is reviewed by the Center with another background input before being sent to the CJI, which consults two senior -most judges of the Supreme Court before finalizing the recommendation.
After consultation, CJI will send his recommendation to the Union Law and Justice Minister during 4 weeks. According to the MOP, as soon as the warrant of appointment will be signed by the President, the Secretary of the Department of Justice will inform the Chief Justice, and a copy of such communication will be sent to the Chief Minister. He will also announce the appointment and will also issue necessary notifications in the Gazette of India.
