SC cancels Chhota Rajan’s bail in the hotel business murder case

New Delhi, 17 September (IANS) Supreme Court on Wednesday by Mumbai hotel businessman Jaya Shetty’s 2001 sensational murder in mafia don Rajendra S. Nickel, aka Chhota Rajan’s bail canceled.

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta allowed a special holiday petition (SLP) filed by the CBI (Central Investigation Bureau), in which the order of the Bombay High Court was granted bail to Chunota Rajan and suspended their life sentence.

A bench led by Justice Nath referred to the presentation of additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, who appeared on behalf of the CBI, that Chhota Rajan was convicted in four other cases and absconded for nearly 27 years.

The MCOCA court convicted Rajan and others in a sensational murder case and sentenced him to his second life imprisonment in about nine years, Rajan filed an appeal before the Bombay High Court.

In October last year, Justice Revathi Mohit-Dere and Prithviraj. A bench of Chavan suspended the pending disposal of criminal appeal and ordered his release on bail. However, Rajan could not take advantage of the bail benefit as he is already serving a life sentence for killing the daylight of crime journalist Jyotmoy Day in Pavai in Tihar Central Jail, New Delhi.

The Shetty murder case was one of the 71 major crimes doseers, which Rajan was handed over to the Indonesian government by the CBI after Bali’s tourist shelter and later deported to India in November 2015.

Shetty, the owner of the Golden Crown Hotel in South Mumbai, was shot by two gunmen on May 4, 2001, with a hit by Rajan, a bitter rival of Absander terrorist Don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar triggered a large sensation in hospitality and political circles.

After a long trial, Special MCOCA court Special Judge M Patil found Rajan guilty and sentenced him to life in jail, along with other accused, Rahul Pansare, Ajay Mohite and Pramod Dhonde.

Shetty had become a victim in an alleged extortion case and was provided with police protection, which was targeted and withdrawn a few months before being killed.
