How does a digital arrest work?
In fact, Vivek Oberoi, a resident of Arela Colony in Bhopal, got the call on Saturday. The caller introduced himself as a TRAI official. The man told the businessman that multiple bank accounts had been opened with his Aadhaar card and his Aadhaar card was also used to purchase SIM cards for suspicious activities. The cybercriminals asked Oberoi to download the Skype video calling app and asked him to stay in the room.
This is how the police saved me
When the businessman was digitally arrested, he informed the Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police. The police arrived there during a digital arrest. When police asked the fake law enforcement officers to identify themselves, the criminals hung up on the video call. Police said criminals had access to the businessman’s bank account information but no funds were transferred.
What is a digital arrest?
Digital capture is a new way for cybercriminals to commit fraud. In this case, the scammer claimed to be an official of a legal agency. They then scare people through audio or video calls and digitally hijack them in their homes. The victim is then defrauded by obtaining information such as their bank account. (input language)
