Saudi Arabia will participate in the Miss Universe pageant for the first time, a historic event for the Islamic country.
Pageant veteran and influencer Rumy Alqahtani will represent the kingdom in one of the world’s most popular beauty pageants, she announced on her Instagram account on Monday.
She shared stunning pictures of herself. In the photo, the model is wearing an off-the-shoulder sequin gown.
“I am honored to compete in Miss Universe 2024. This is the first time Saudi Arabia will compete in Miss Universe,” she wrote in Arabic on Instagram.
Al Qahtani, who was born in Riyadh, is no stranger to the spotlight, Khaleej Times reported. She has participated in many global beauty pageants, the most recent being the Miss and Mrs. Asia Global held in Malaysia a few weeks ago.
Last year, Miss Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Universe 2023.
A player from Nicaragua became the winner of the competition for the first time, with Antonia Porsild from Thailand and Moraya Wilson from Australia finishing second and third respectively.
The event’s organizers announced last year that the next edition would be held in Mexico.
