Odds of Winning Powerball

As the jackpot grows, so does the number of players, but the odds of winning a huge cash prize remain low. The lower the jackpot, the higher the chances of winning. The probability of winning the Grand Prize is 1 in over 292 million. However, selecting just one or two correct numbers increases the odds of winning to 1 in 38.32, which usually results in a prize of $4.

How to Play Powerball

In Powerball, players must select five numbers between 1 and 69 and one additional “Powerball” number between 1 and 26. Players do not need to get all six numbers to win some cash, but the more numbers correctly guessed, the larger the prize becomes. Drawings take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and the jackpot grows after each drawing if no winner claims the grand prize.

Power Play and Double Play Options

For an extra $1, players can choose Power Play to multiply their winnings by two, three, four, five, or ten, depending on the multiplier number selected before the draw. Power Play is not applied to the jackpot, and the multiplier is never higher than two for the $1 million second prize.
