Satellite verification of peanut crop registration: Farmers asked not to worry about SMS alert

Gandhinagar, 17 September (IANS) Government of Gujarat has presented satellite image -informed verification and digital crop survey for registration under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the purchase of groundnut.

During verification, less than 10 percent of the registered survey numbers were found without peanut cultivation. Farmers associated with such plots have been informed through SMS.

Officials clarified that these messages should not be terrorized. Farmers who have actually sown peanuts on their registered plots can contact their village servants for verification.

They also have the option to download the Digital Crop Survey Mobile App and conduct the survey through the village surveyor.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Welfare Department of Agriculture and Farmers, Dr. Anju Sharma said that the time limit for registration for Mongon, Moong, Urad and Soyabean’s MSP procurement has been extended till 22 September to allow maximum farmer participation.

By 17 September, more than 8.79 lakh farmers had registered for peanuts, 66,000 for soybean, 5,000 for urad, and more than 1,100 for moong.

Sharma said that farmers who have received SMS alerts despite peanut cultivation on their plots should not worry, as the purchase will only proceed after verification of the area. The list of such survey numbers has already been sent to the district offices for cross-checking.

To reduce the process, the Department of Agriculture is also training about how to use the mobile app through Wande Gujarat Channel. Farmers are further advised that they can keep as evidence of supporting a geopolitical picture of their crop. “The message is clear,” said Sharma.
