Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Cox underlined the deeply personal nature of the contribution: “Our £10 million comes from the fivers, tenners and twenties of Radio 2 listeners and Children in Need supporters who have personally given their hard-earned money, so it means the absolute world.”
Cox triumphantly crossed the finish line in Pudsey, West Yorkshire, on Friday afternoon, the culmination of her grueling “Great Northern Marathon Challenge”.
His efforts were also acknowledged with a Message of support from the Prince of WalesHis appearance immediately after the challenge on the live fundraising broadcast saw him wearing Crocs, a necessary and obvious choice to ease his severely swollen and sore feet,
Reflecting on the physically demanding experience during Monday’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills, Cox candidly admitted that the challenge was more difficult than she ever imagined, with the recovery proving equally difficult. “It was much more difficult than I expected and the recovery was very difficult,” he said.
“I don’t know what I was thinking. I was thinking: ‘Oh, I’ll go home and maybe take the dogs for a little walk on Saturday and Sunday.’ I really can’t walk!”
She elaborated on her specific footwear choice for the broadcast, saying: “I had to wear Crocs and that was a squeeze, too. I actually had to wrestle my Crocs out because I have a lot of fluid in my feet and you know… you know when you have the flu and you end up doing a brew and you’re passed out? That’s just how I am.”

During his 135-mile arduous journey, Cox found vital inspiration and solace in the powerful music of acclaimed grime artist Stormzy. She was later delighted to receive a personal message from the composer himself, congratulating him on her extraordinary and inspiring achievement.
Stormzy’s message expressed his appreciation: “Just wanted to give you a big congratulations for completing five marathons in five days, which is absolutely insane. And that’s more than five marathons I’ve done in my life, so huge congratulations once again, and hats off to you for raising all the money for such a beautiful, amazing cause. We’re all so proud of you. God bless you and take care of you, lots of love.”
Responding to the unexpected and touching support, Cox responded: “It’s so amazing. Thank you so much. It’s a lovely surprise. I don’t usually like surprises.” She also humorously acknowledged her musical influence during her performance: “Her voice blew me away. Her voice transported me to her Chase & Status track on ‘Backbone’, I was just rapping along with her. If she makes it into the Wednesday documentary, I apologize.”
