Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday expressed serious concern over the situation in West Bengal and said that Sandeshkhali would lead to the “downfall” of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress.

Mr Sarma criticized the treatment of journalists in Bengal, saying those attempting to reveal the true state of affairs were being arrested.

Following multiple accounts of allegations of sexual violence against BJP’s Trinamool leaders and harassment by women in Sandeshkhali, Biswa Sarma said, “The situation in Bengal is very bad, the journalists there who are trying to show the reality are also arrested. No one can even imagine what happened in Sandeshkhali.

He said that the law will take its course.

“So much atrocities on women. All this was in the knowledge of the state government. There was a syndicate running there. This has come to light before the country. I am confident that the law will take its course.”

The Chief Minister of Assam further warned that a government carrying out such atrocities will not remain in power for long.

He said, “No matter how hard Trinamool tries, people will not remain silent. A government that commits atrocities like this will not last long.”

Earlier on Monday, West Bengal Police had arrested a journalist associated with Republic TV in Sandeshkhali.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) directing him to submit a report within two weeks in the case where a journalist of a local news channel was illegally detained by the police in Sandeshkhali. was taken.

The complainant, who is also the wife of the journalist concerned, alleged that she had no access to him and was concerned about his well-being, the NHRC said, adding that this was an attempt to strangle the media. Through ‘coercion and intimidation’ in West Bengal.
