Samsung unveils ‘Galaxy Ring’ smart wearable: Here’s what it might be able to do

During the closing segment of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch event, the company unveiled a brief teaser of the Galaxy Ring, confirming long-standing rumors about the device being in development at the South Korean tech giant.

It’s important to note that Samsung has only released a short teaser about the product, so officially, we can only talk about its appearance at this time. In the teaser video, we can see that it has a set of sensors in a typical ring form factor, similar to the Ora Ring, and it has a black finish.

Although there is no official information about the capabilities of the product, Samsung decided to tease the Galaxy Ring soon after with its segment on better health tracking and it aims to create a better experience for users through the Galaxy Health app. That said, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is said to be primarily a health tracking device, and its reveal so soon after a major health segment may not be a coincidence.

Additionally, an official Samsung promo video about its new health tracking features also makes it clear that the Galaxy Ring will be a health-focused device. At the end of the video, both characters talk about making “life-changing progress” through health choices, and then one character says, “I wonder what’s next,” as they look toward the horizon. It’s like the sun is shining. This suggests that the Galaxy Ring will be a health-focused device, unlike the McClear Smart Ring we reported on last year, which can be used to make payments on the go.

Additionally, recent reports also state that Samsung may include advanced health tracking features, such as the ability to take EKG readings, and blood oxygen measurement via photoplethysmography sensor.

We don’t know when the Galaxy Ring will be released, what features it will have, or how much it will cost. But considering that Samsung has reportedly been developing it since mid-2023 (via The Elec), it could still take a while. However, Samsung holds two major events every year – one for its S series smartphones and the other for its Galaxy Watch and foldable Z series phones – so it’s possible that we’ll see the company’s foldables as well later this year. Will hear more about the ring.
