Samsung promises eight years of Android and security updates for the tablet

Featuring an IP68-certified build and military-grade (MIL-STD-810H) durability, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 5G was launched alongside the Galaxy XCover 7 in January this year. Months after launch, Samsung executives revealed that the enterprise version of the Galaxy Tab Active 5 5G will receive Android and security updates in eight years. The standard version of the rugged tablet will get four major OS updates and five years of security patches.

Samsung executive from the Netherlands release (pass SamMobile said on LinkedIn that the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition will receive Android operating system and security updates for eight years. This means that the tablet will get updates until 2032 and get new features before Android 22 version. Meanwhile, the standard version of the rugged tablet is confirmed to receive four major OS updates and five years of security patches.

The Galaxy Tab Active 5 will be the first tablet from the Korean brand to be guaranteed to receive software updates for an extended period of time. Samsung has promised seven years of Android updates and security patches for the latest Galaxy S24 series. Google is also offering seven years of software support for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition comes in green hue and runs Android 14. It comes with an 8-inch WUXGA TFT display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It comes with Gorilla Glass Victus protection and runs on a 5nm octa-core SoC.

The Galaxy Tab Active 5 comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It comes with a 5,050mAh battery. The tablet also features MIL-STD-810H certified construction and an IP68 rating, which protects the device from vibration, accidental shock, drops, rain, and dust. It integrates S Pen and supports face unlock function.
