Popular comedian Samay Raina is much in the news lately, more so after the controversy that happened on his show ‘India’s Got Latent‘. As per reports, the controversy began when fellow podcaster-YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia asked an objectionable question on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’ which has irked many viewers. So much so that a police complaint has been filed against Samay and Ranveer. This has brought Samay Raina in the spotlight. Read on to know more about him:
Who is Samay Raina? His education and family details
Samay Raina is a popular comedian and content creator. He was born in Jammu in a Kashmiri Pandit family, but he has studied in different parts of India. As per reports, Samay did his schooling from Hyderbad followed by pursuing a degree in printing engineering from PVG Engineering and Technology College, Pune. It was then that he started his hands at open mic events, and soon became a hit.
In 2017, he started opening for other comedians like Anirban Dasgupta and Abhishek Upmanyu in Pune. But it was in 2019 when Samay became popular by co-winning the stand-up show ‘Comicstaan Season 2’, along with Akash Gupta.
During COVID-19 pandemic, Samay Raina started streaming chess on his YouTube channel with big chess players, and this gained him much popularity. He also organised online chess tournaments including the Comedians on Board (COB) series. As per NDTV, in 2021 Samay won the $10,000 Botez Bullet Invitational hosted by Chess.com.

In 2024, Samay Raina started his show ‘India’s Got Latent’ on YouTube, and it gained popularity for his comedy. The show is a humourous take on the show ‘India’s Got Talent’, wherein contestants showcase their talent and in turn, they are grilled by the judges. The score system of the show is similar to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s podcast, ‘Kill Tony’. It was on this show that the latest controversy began, because of which there have been multiple police complaints are filed against Samay, Ranveer Allahabadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apporva Makhija. In the complaints, they have been accused for promoting obscenity and having vulgar discussions in the show.
Following the uproar, Ranveer Allahabadia even issued a public apology and said, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry… My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.”
