sam fender have won in Mercury Prize 2025 for their third album, people watching On Thursday (16 October).
English singer-songwriter was crowned the winner in newcastleAfter being shortlisted against Fontaines DC and Wolf Alice, Irish pop stars CMAT and Britpop icons Pulp.
Judge Sian Ellery called the award-winning album a “classic” masterpiece.
Surprised by the result, Fender responded, “We didn’t think we were going to win anything.”
When asked how he was going to celebrate the win, he said, “I think we’re gonna go, I think we’re gonna go for beers.”
He added, “And then I’ve got four weeks off.”
