Srinagar, Oct 11 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Saturday said he salutes the supreme sacrifice of the bravehearts of the Army as he paid floral tributes to two soldiers at the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (XV Corps).
The Lieutenant Governor paid floral tributes and paid homage to bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, who laid down their lives for the country, an official statement said.
It said Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh made the supreme sacrifice while conducting anti-terrorist operations in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag, battling extreme weather conditions.
The Lieutenant Governor said, “I salute the supreme sacrifice of the brave men of our Army, Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. The nation will always be grateful for the exemplary gallantry and selfless service of our soldiers. In this hour of grief, we stand in solidarity with the families of our martyrs.”
Bodies of two soldiers were recovered from the forest area of Anantnag district.
The two para commandos lost contact with their team during an anti-terrorist operation in the forest area between Kishtwar and Anantnag districts.
Joint forces, including the Army, Security Forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, are carrying out counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir targeting terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and supporters to destroy the “ecosystem” of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from drug smugglers and drug smugglers, people involved in hawala money racket are also on the radar of security forces.
It is believed that the money generated from these illegal activities is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir has a 740 km long Line of Control (LOC) and a 240 km long International Border (IB).
The Army guards the LOC while the BSF guards the IB. The LOC is located in Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and partly in Jammu district, while the IB is located in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
