“The first one, I was like, ‘Did I hear what I think I did? Definitely not.’ Then the second one, I was like oh! I mean, it’s 1am ET, but still, you don’t expect this on #SNL,” someone else wrote while a third simply said: “Oops potty mouth.”
Another viewer was so angry that they threatened to take action, writing to the show on X: “What are you doing about this? If you don’t apologize by Tuesday at 5pm EST I’m going to make an official complaint to the FCC.”
“It’s the network’s responsibility to censor this!” Someone else wrote on X. “They should put the lyrics on a separate screen with their hand on the mute button.”
Others wondered whether snl Fines may be imposed for carpenter’s actions.
Independent has reached snl and a representative of Carpenter for comment.

When the album and its cover image were first announced in June, It immediately faced criticism. The image shows Carpenter on her hands and knees while an unidentified man in a suit is holding her hair. The second promotional photo released with the cover shows a dog wearing a heart-shaped collar tag that reads “man’s best friend”.
Carpenter addressed that controversy during his snl Opening monologue.
“Some people were a little nervous when they saw the cover,” Carpenter said after showing the photos to the audience. “I’m not sure why. It was me, standing on all fours, with an invisible figure pulling my hair. But people don’t realize they cut it that way. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a photo from Bowen’s 50th anniversary special [Yang] “Help me hold my hair.”
Then, as the image zoomed out again, Carpenter said: “Martin Short kicked me out of the buffet line.”
