“We are acutely aware of the threats posed by Russia, including attempts to map undersea cables, networks and pipelines belonging to the UK and its allies, and we are tackling these threats head-on.
“That is why the Prime Minister has set out the biggest sustained increase in defense spending since the Cold War, including a commitment to increase spending to 2.5% of GDP from April 2027, and to 3% of GDP in the next Parliament, economic and fiscal conditions permitting.
“In addition, we have imposed 900 new sanctions against individuals, entities and vessels operating under the Russian regime and accelerated the development and fielding of advanced anti-submarine technology.”
The British government believes that its Atlantic Fortress program, which integrates autonomous ships, artificial intelligence sensors, warships and aircraft to protect vital undersea infrastructure from evolving challenges, will help the UK and NATO secure the North Atlantic against the threat of Russia’s evolving submarine force.
